Digital health technology has long been expected to be one of the most effective solutions for addressing the sustainability issues of healthcare systems caused by declining performance. Despite these high expectations, digital healthcare has yet to achieve meaningful outcomes, and the industry is still struggling to find a viable business model. Above all, user retention is the primary obstacle; the longer consumers engage with digital health products, the more data can be collected, leading to the development of superior solutions. In this context, health literacy—specifically e-health literacy—is a critical prerequisite for retention. However, the significance of health literacy extends far beyond the digital realm. This discussion will focus on the importance of health literacy and explore possible approaches to empowering it.
