The adoption of digital technologies in pathology is changing the landscape of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) products. This lecture will provide a focused overview of digital pathology–based IVD applications, including whole-slide imaging, artificial intelligence–assisted diagnostics, and quantitative image analysis, emphasizing their current status and practical use. Key regulatory considerations will be addressed, such as classifying software as a medical device and the legal frameworks overseeing digital IVD products. Additionally, important factors for securing regulatory approval will be outlined. Practical issues related to reimbursement and healthcare system integration will also be discussed, highlighting their importance in the successful implementation of digital IVD technologies.
